X# Generator

Hi,

can you rename the output files from generated.cs to generated.g.cs to hint that to VS?

VS then displays that correct in the solution explorer.

Could that generator have been done using T4 Templates?

Kind regards

Is that all that is necessary for it to seem as temp files? You sure
something else is not needed?

No, we looked at that. T4 templates seem more suited to markup.

One big misconception here:

the .g.cs files are generated by msbuild, which we dont do (yet)
We use a custom tool (like the xsd files stuff), which msbuild doesn't do, so they are not really temp files...

I'm not very knowledgeable about MSBuild tasks, but shouldn't it be possible to setup the conversion of the X# files to C# to be an MSBuild task (putting the generated files in the obj directory?), and then have it add the generated files to the list of C# files being compiled?

Yes, but poses issues with the bootstrap building. (Is doable but get complicated...)
