Help needed in my os

May 15, 2012 at 7:12 AM

I have made an os and a command prompt for it. It runs well in QEMU but when I try to put it on a USB drive, it shows error saying that "FileNotFound C:\Users\Shark\AppData\Roaming\CosmosUserKit\main.map"

I am just a beginner and of 13 years only. I am in 8th grade. I know C#,C,C++,Java and SQL. And now my dream is to create an OS. I have Windows 7, Visual C# 2008 and Cosmos User Kit MS4. I created my account today itself and so if i am breaking any norms, i am sorry

Welcome. Why do you use an ancient release like MS4? I know you have VS2008, but you seem to be using Express edition, so getting VS2010 is not a problem then....

Welcome. Why do you use an ancient release like MS4? I know you have VS2008, but you seem to be using Express edition, so getting VS2010 is not a problem then....

"tried and failed" -> you mean later releases? Sure, but why not get that working, and get better support from the project?
Also, you'll much like the debugger ability of the later releases, and other interesting stuff.

We praise newer versions because, well, they're newer, and contain fixes for common issues..
Now back to your problem: have you tried with a new cosmos kernel? (without putting any code in it etc).
Also, stop sending a new message every minute: that's really immature..

I think (not sure) MS4 might be the latest version supporting VS2008. But we (as project team) dont give (much) support anymore for that version, for the simple reason it's 2.5 years old..

Please note that Qemu is not supported anymore, as it turned out to be quite buggy, and the windows version was always behind (and even more buggy), just download VMware Player and you're safe..
Superbyte: you know of a tutorial somewhere explaining how the Express/Shell stuff works?

Coordinator
May 15, 2012 at 8:09 AM
Correct. You did also install the Visual Studio Integrated Shell right? You now have to start Visual Studio 2010 Shell (named Visual Studio 2010 in the start menu), and create a cosmos project there as well. then add a reference to the library in C# Express. Next hit F5 in Shell, and you'll be running.

OK trying it

I installed VCS 2010, and cosmos latest release. But in the template, it shows Library project, not cosmos boot

Please note that Qemu is not supported anymore, as it turned out to be quite buggy, and the windows version was always behind (and even more buggy), just download VMware Player and you're safe..
Superbyte: you know of a tutorial somewhere explaining how the Express/Shell stuff works?

no can it start cmd after cosmos shuts down or before it starts or any ways because in Milestone 4 I did it. I wrote it before BuildUI.Run();and xBoot.Execute();
does this mean that MS4 was better???????????
is there a way that I can debug the error of my first message in MS4?
or a way to execute the same thing in the latest release?
just review my cosmos boot code once which starts SP.exe. if something like that is possible because that happened in QEMU and VMWare too..................

does this mean that MS4 was better???????????
is there a way that I can debug the error of my first message in MS4?
or a way to execute the same thing in the latest release?
just review my cosmos boot code once which starts SP.exe. if something like that is possible because that happened in QEMU and VMWare too..................

        {
            Console.WriteLine("Cosmos booted successfully. Type a line of text to get it echoed back.");
        }

        protected override void Run()
        {
            Console.Write("Input: ");
            var input = Console.ReadLine();

            Console.WriteLine(input);
        }

are you using a clean kernel, or you already put your own code in it? If already your code in, try to start over, and do it step by step..

I think (not sure) MS4 might be the latest version supporting VS2008. But we (as project team) dont give (much) support anymore for that version, for the simple reason it's 2.5 years old..

Agggggg!!!! These are things you should be able to find on various places throughout the internet, simple c# coding things. Sorry if I seem rude, but please don't BEG or spam for help. It really doesn't get you anywhere.

Tip: write ONE message with a VALID question. If you need more help, create a new discussion. You also should read up on operating system theory, as it will really help you understand what and what not will work.
