I'd want to know how to make a setting that is saved and stored for the next boot(s). I tried making a VS setting file (.config) and it caused an error. Is there any other way?

Use latest devkit and save to disk..

You have to make a filesystem or use someone elses, then make a settings folder and save all the settings as files in the folder.
